Fyodor felt her appear in his house. He slid the chicken onto the plate and set it on the counter before retrieving another plate and starting to fill it.
âSomething smells good,â Kaitya said.
âI hope soâafter all, I slaved over the stove to make food for my older woman.â He chuckled.
âI see it amuses you that Iâm older.â Kaitya sounded closer. She slid her hand along his back.
He pressed into her touch. Turning his head, he looked into her eyes. She lifted her head and he met her, kissing her gently. She made a humming sound then pulled back.
âI see you have your supposed control in place.â
âAnd from your expression, youâre going to do everything to break it.â
âYou betcha, buddy.â She patted his back then went to island and sat on a high-backed stool.
Fyodor chuckled and returned to putting food on the plate. After it was fixed, he set it down then asked, âWhat do you want to drink?â
âSome iced tea, if you have it.â
âSure I do.â He went to the fridge to get it then grabbed two glasses.
He set it on the counter between them then took a seat beside her. When he did, Kaitya placed her hand on his thigh. Fyodor stilled then breathed in. That was a mistake, as her scent of wild winds and rain filled him.
âAre you trying to seduce me?â
âYouâd know it if I was,â Kaitya said then looked deliberately at her hand on his leg then his face. âIs this bothering you? I did tell you I would touch you when I wanted to.â
âIt is fine.â He picked up his fork. âTell me about your day.â
âI will later.â Kaitya lifted her utensil too. âBut first I want to hear about yoursâwhere you went and the Shadowers you visited. I want to know that every time you go somewhere.â
âWhy?â
âI need to know the people of my bond shadow.â
Her answer pleased him and he filled her in. Kaitya laughed as he told her stories of the reactions of his people to the new environment they were in. They would all adapt, but it was still a culture shock. Many hadnât been to Earth before and New York was, wellâ¦colorful in its own right. It was why many of them had decided to settled here. Their various eye, hair and skin tones wouldnât garner much of a second look. People would assume it was a fashion statement or that they were part of some show or another. Basically they would be able to hide in plain sight without having to hide who they were. Well, unless someone had wings, a tail or something else like thatâthen that they would need to hide it at times. But they could let it out occasionally, which was what made New York so attractive to settle in. With it being winter, they had the cold weather outerwear to hide things that humans might have a problem believing was just part of a costume or someoneâs style. By the time winter was over, they would have a handle on what they could or couldnât show around humans.
